Part 2: My Staycation in Manhattan, KS

Summer experiences in Manhattan:

Our Arts in the Park Summer concert series is cool. I've been impressed by the caliber of performers. The Manhattan community really shows up for these.

New to Manhattan, as of this year is a Thai rolled ice cream place, called Pandora Rolled Ice Cream. This was my first time trying out this particular place and my second time eating Thai rolled ice cream. The process is neat to watch. The ice cream was pretty good, though the employee was not engaging at all.

Another fun summer event was Concert on the Patio at Liquid Art Winery. They always have a food truck. This time they had my favorite food truck, Smokin' Wille's BBQ. So good!

Beautiful Kansas Sunset

Little Grill, Manhattan, KS

My mom and I visited Little Grill on Friday. I hadn't been there in roughly 10 years. They've grown since then and the building updates looked nice while keeping the beach-y feel. Click here for my full review.

The rum punch was yummy and not too strong or sugar-y. Mom ordered fish 'n chips. The homemade jerk potato chips were great. Her dish came with plantains and I loved the lightly sweet flavor. I ordered the gumbo. It wasn't like gumbo down south, but rather had a clear broth base. The meat was all so tender. It had fish, stew meat, chicken, rice, carrots, potatoes. and beans. It came with festival, a kind of cornbread stick. Each bite of gumbo was a surprise. I loved it.

If you're in Manhattan, Kansas check it out, but arrive early as the place gets packed on the weekends.

Film in Manhattan, KS Needs Background Actors and Production Assistants 5/5-7

So, this is a film that I've been helping with. It's called Ella. I've worked with the Director Dan Chen and Producer Eric B. Cook. I'll be there Friday. Join the fun! Looking forward to a unique experience! I'll share more on how I got involved with the project and how it all goes this weekend.

KC, Part 2

The next morning after the game, we decided to check out a nearby Farmers Market. We love Farmer's Markets and go to the one here in Manhattan, Kansas roughly twice a month. We went to the Kansas City River Market in Kansas City, Missouri. It was huge! We tried Amish made pecan cinnamon rolls and they were terrific!

They had an Italian market, Carollo's Gourmet Grocery, Deli, and Grill with cannolis and I had to get some. I hadn't had a good cannoli since leaving Italy four years ago. While there, I also tried their sea salt chocolate caramel gelato. There aren't places like that in Manhattan, Kansas and I didn't want to miss out. So glad we stopped there.

From there we stopped at Sephora in the Plaza, so I could get a few things.

We headed back to the Legends area and are at Casa Agave. Their food was awful and that was the down part of our trip.

We did a little more shopping at Legends and headed home.

It was so nice to get away for a night with my mom. We had fun exploring KC!

Monsoon in Manhattan

Late afternoon and evening Monday, May 4th, the weather here in Manhattan, KS got crazy. The downpour was intense and caused flooding unlike I'd ever seen in my life.
I left work about 5:30 planning to head to the gym. I ran through the rain and jumped over a rover of water that soaked my shoes. So, I decided to go home. On the main road heading home, I saw police lights up ahead. So, I took a shortcut to miss it. Once I met another main road, I saw all the standing water and all the tentative drivers. Here's what I experienced. Just past this, I saw the first stalled car, a muscle car, Dodge Charger. I turned back into the main road home and saw some several stalled cars and lots of water.

Here we see stalled vehicles, mainly muscle cars, and drivers of those cars standing on the median. I was overwhelemed with the amount of water and was unsure if my small Jetta would survive. As, I trekked on the road ahead seemed a daunting with all the water, so I thought I should try a side street, then decided that wouldn't be the best idea, so I kept going on. There were waves of water hitting my car and I was waiting for water to start to start seeping in my car. I kept praying that I could get home safely.

I live down from a roundabout and as I approached it reminded me of an abandoned carosel at an amusement park. Cars were stuck on it with many up on the curbs. The key part was that nothing was moving. So, I turned down a side street and planned to take a turn down a side street to arrive home, but I saw other cars who had tried that and failed. I kept driving and looking at side streets. I found one and turned down. I was so happy to finally get home!
