The radio station, K-Love has been playing a song I really like. God Only Knows by for King & Country has some powerful lyrics.
What I love about God is that He knows what we're going through and exactly how we feel. He knows each and every person inside and out. Not only does he know us, but he loves us. He loves us enough to save us from our sins by sending us Jesus.
GOD ONLY KNOWS Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Wide awake while the world is sound asleepin'
Too afraid of what might show up while you're dreamin'
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody would believe you
Every day you try to pick up all the pieces
All the memories, they somehow never leave you
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody would believe you
[Chorus]
God only knows what you've been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows how it's killing you
But there's a kind of love that God only knows
God only knows what you've been through
God only knows what they say about you
But God only knows the real you
There's a kind of love that God only knows
[Post-Chorus]
There's a kind of love that
There's a kind of love
[Verse 2]
You keep a cover over every single secret
So afraid if someone saw them, they would leave
Somebody, somebody, somebody sees you
Somebody, somebody will never leave you

Alistair Begg Quote
My church, Trinity Baptist posted a really thought-provoking quote that I wanted to share with you all.
As a Scotsman,
I'm subject to Queen Elizabeth II.
But I haven't ever had a phone call or a visit from her.
She doesn't know my name.
Her greatness is revealed in how isolated she is from me.
But God's greatness is revealed in His intimacy with us.
He does know my name
and He does know yours.
He knows about, and He cares about,
the responsibilities that weigh heavy on you,
the quiet disappointments that gnaw at you,
and the concerns that keep you awake at night.
He knows about your hopes and aspirations and the moments that make your heart sing.
The Creator is mindful of you, and that gives you value,
whatever the world sees when it looks at you,
and however you are treated by those around you.
He is mindful.
All of us, whatever our background or beliefs, have a picture of God.
Many of us have a God who we do not believe in because we do not like him.
If you do not believe in God because he is distant, uncaring, and unhelpful, I understand.
I do not believe in that God either!
Here is the God of Christmas, of history.
He is a God who knows you,
and he cares about you,
and he makes promises to you,
and he acts to help you.
He is the mindful God

Ellie Holcomb Music
At this year's Wonderful Weekend for Women the worship leader was Ellie Holcomb. Over the course of the weekend, I feel in love with her music. So, I bought all three of her CDs and listen to them everyday. They remind me of the promises of God and are TERRIFIC to sing along to. :) Every single song is one my favorites list, but here's my Top 10 favorites:
1. Marvelous Light
2. As Sure As The Sun
3. The Valley
4. My Portion and My Strength
5. Tho Broken Beautiful
6. Place My Hope
7. Anchor of Hope
8. Magnolia
9. Night Song
10. May The Words
I actually got to meet Ellie and she was so sweet and kind. Her favorite Bible verse is Hosea 6:3, "Let’s do our best to know the Lord. His coming is as certain as the morning sun; he will refresh us like rain renewing the earth in the springtime." That scripture was the inspiration for her song, As Sure As The Sun.

Why I'm Pro-Life: The Beginning of My Story
I've been wanting to share this for years, but my story isn't just mine, but others that I wanted to make sure were comfortable about what I'm sharing. It also took me awhile to find my words and the strength to share my heart with you.
I'm pro-life for many reasons:
1. God gives life; thus, ALL life matters
2. No one asks to be born into the situation and circumstances they come into
3. I was that unplanned baby, born to a single mother with no job or degree
When I say the lives of the unborn matter; I'm saying I mattered when I was unborn and I matter now.
I'm saying that I know babies can be an "inconvenience," but they are a blessing and so was/am I.
I'm not only advocating for their lives, but in a way, I'm advocating for my own life.
My mom was the youngest of 6 children born to a Catholic, suddenly single mother. She was living out of state and in an unstable relationship. She decided to move back home, not knowing that she was moving back with some extra cargo; me.
The timing was all wrong, but she decided to keep me. She kept her pregnancy a secret for 7 months. Once announcing her pregnancy, she was told to abort the baby; me. Even though, I have a terrific relationship with the person who said that; there's still a tinge of pain that there wasn't joy at the announcement of my impending birth, but rather someone trying to help my mom fix a "problem."
My entire life my mom has told me that she always wanted me and that I'm the best thing that's ever happened to her, but for far too long, I've taken the identity of someone that wasn't wanted. I'm coming to realize that some of the surprises in my life have lead to my greatest blessings. While not planned, I was and am wanted. God had and has a plan for my life; things He has for me to do that no one else can accomplish.
So while, I may not have changed your mind on the debate of being pro-life or pro-choice; I hope I've given you a different perspective to think about.

Louie Giglio: Fruit Cake and Ice Cream
I enjoy watching Louie Giglo's sermons. I appreciate his realness! Here he shares the life-changing experience of a college student named, Ashley. It really impacted me and reminded me that our example, as Christians can change the world. Here's to being a "fruit cake."

Unspoken
Last week, my mom and I saw the Christian band, Unspoken at the Sundown Salute in Junction City, KS. Their lead singer, Chad Mattson has a memorable voice; together they're a joy to listen to. It was neat listening to the lead singer talk about how God delivered him from drug addiction. Yes, our God is that big! Their music has always been a big encouragement to me.

Being an Only Child
I grew up as an only child. When my single mom got married, they wanted, but weren't able to have more kids. Often I'm asked by people with a young child to share my thoughts on it. Mainly they want me to say that I'm glad I didn't have siblings. As a child, I was happy to be the only child; I didn't have to share my parents. I wasn't spoiled with new cars and vacations like most people assume; my parents wanted me to learn the value of working hard for things like they did, which I now appreciate.
As I've gotten older, I realize what being an only child will really mean for me. When my dad went through a TIA (pre-stroke) and later cance,r I felt like I needed to be at all major appointments and obviously surgery. When my mom was suffering from and finally diagnosed with a lung disease I was there for all key appointments and when she had a lung biopsy (one of the most trying times in my life). The burden of my concern for them and the seriousness of each of their health issues jolted my whole life. They both told me I didn't have to be there for everything, but I did. I felt a great responsibility to be there to care for and comfort them. For these reasons and God's leading in my life, I've decided to spend my life in my hometown, near my family. I knew I would regret not being there if I ever moved away and I've realized I couldn't live with it. I asked my mom if all only children feel this way and she thought it was probably just me and the responsibility I put on myself. Since I'm the only child, I feel I should be there for them and I want to.
What is difficult is not having someone to go through this with. Not having someone to talk through things with that really know what I'm going through, someone to split responsibilities with. I get that some only children might have a significant other to go through this with, but I don't and it's hard. I know one day I'll have to possibly make some hard decisions essentially alone and that thought is overwhelming. I do find comfort in that God is always with me, so essentially I'm not alone, but having a sibling would be nice.
Also, I feel more responsibility to take care of myself since I'm all my parents have. I can't be reckless ever or at least I feel I can't be. They always tell me to be careful and stay safe, literally every time I talk to them. So, no cliff diving for me ;) To be a little more serious, I know I'm huge part of their world and that I have to be around for them.
In the end, everyone must make a decision on what they think is best for there family, but I would never plan to only have one child. There are definitely more challenges and things you have to think about is deciding what's best for your family. If you ask me how many kids I want, it's always been 4. Essentially the opposite of one child.
Do you have any thoughts on the subject? I'd love to hear!

31
Today I turned 31 and had a fantastic day! Some of my day was spent at work, studying, and taking a finance test. Then I got to get a pedicure at Bellus Academy; what I love!!! My toes are now a beautiful teal with sparkly hot pink tips! I got dinner with my family. My mom made my very favorite cake, carrot cake and it was so good! They got my favorite ice cream, Call Hall, purple pride. I got this super cute Samsonite, carry on luggage. I've been admiring the new robin's egg blue colored nail polish and I got this OPI polish called, Can't Find My Czechbook. Then got a purple orchid plant, which is my favorite flower! End of the day, I finally got to catch up on my favorite shows which makes me happy.
Though I maybe didn't say it online, last year I took turning 30 quite hard. I'd just gone through my very first heartbreak and I didn't have any of the things I thought I would at 30 like marriage, family, and the white, picket fence.
This year, I don't fear adding another year to the tally. You see, I've earned those years. I've lived the heck out of each and every year to the best of my ability. This life has been an absolute roller coaster, but it's the life God gave me. So, I'm looking forward to 31 and have given my life timeline to God.
So, now I'll leave you with a saying I like and my life verse that brings me hope Jeremiah 29:11-14
Happy Birthday to me! :)

Broken
I happened upon this set of unique vows that really touched my heart. They made me laugh, cry, and hope. I appreciated the honesty and realness of her words. Hopefully, one day God brings someone into my life who will love me through my brokenness too. In many ways, I know that we're all broken and being worked on by God daily. I'm thankful for His patience with my slow learning process. He is good!
Along with the theme of being broken, I wanted to share the song, Broken Together, by Casting Crowns.
Lyrics
What do you think about when you look at me
I know were not the fairy tale you dreamed wed be
You wore the veil, you walked the aisle, you took my hand
And we dove into a mystery
How I wish we could go back to simpler times
Before all our scars and all our secrets were in the light
Now on this hallowed ground, we've drawn the battle lines
Will we make it through the night
Its going to take much more than promises this time
Only God can change our minds
Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete
Could we just be broken together
If you can bring your shattered dreams and I'll bring mine
Could healing still be spoken and save us
The only way we'll last forever is broken together
How it must have been so lonely by my side
We were building kingdoms and chasing dreams and left love behind
I'm praying God will help our broken hearts align
And we wont give up the fight
Description:
Mark Hall, Bernie Herms
“Marriage is tough. We bring a lot of fairytales to the picture when it comes to marriage. We bring them to the altar with us [thinking]: ‘This is going to be perfect. We don’t have to be apart. We can just wake up together every morning and no one is going to have morning breath. We’re not going to have any problems.’ And then the problems hit and you don’t know where to file those into your picture. . . The idea I’m trying to say is: ‘Can you lay down who you thought I was and love the ‘me’ that is? Can we take this from where we are now and realize that I can’t be that person?’ Only God is going to be able to make this work and broken people can be broken together. To me, it’s probably the most important song on the record.”

Resolutions
I made my New Year's Resolutions pretty late this year.
1. I'm not dating for at least the first four months of the year, maybe all year (it's up to God). I took myself outta the game and deleted myself from the two dating sites I was on. Some I'd been on for roughly 8 years. I realized that those sites were a continual source of disappointment and reminder that here were 5 new matches today that were also not going to work. I really felt prompted by God to get outta the game. Even if I've said in the past that I wasn't trying, I always was. I decided to stop trying. Yes, I still notice cute guys, but I've decided to not worry about things. I'm feeling MUCH more comfortable with turning 31 this year, than I did turning 30. There was something emotional about 30. Maybe it was because I realized I didn't have many/any of the things I'd hope I'd have at 30 (married, house, kids, etc.) It's actually been pretty freeing to quit trying.
2. I'm also making a conscience effort to cut down my Facebook and Pinterest time. Now this one is definitely a work in progress, but I want to be among the people living life versus living it through social media.
3. I've also trying to be careful about what I see and listen to, as you think about what you spend your time on. So, no 50 Shades of Grey or Magic Mike for me. I want to have a pure mind and heart. Definitely challenging!
What I hope to fill my time with because of these changes is 1) God; 2) actually living life through spending time with friends, traveling more, going to movies and concerts; 3) focusing more on school. When I'm not addicted to catching up on on social media every morning, I read a devotional with scriptures (Jesus Calling by Sarah Young) and have time to pray. This keeps me in a positive frame of mind heading into work. I've been making a conscience effort to not text, but call and catch up with friends; actually share life. I've started this and it's been refreshing and so rewarding.
Any thoughts? I'm feeling inspired! Are you? What are your resolutions?

Fears
Most of my fears revolve around loss of family and dreams.
I want to see more of the world and am scared I never will.
I want to fall in love, but fear I never will again.
I fear I'll get my heart broken again.
I fear I won't get married and have kids
I fear being an awful spouse and mother.
I fear life without my parents and grandma.
I fear being alone.
I fear losing more of my health.
I fear failing.
I fear running into the guy who broke my heart.
I fear public speech.
I fear living an ordinary life.
I'm working to conquer my fears, pray about my fears, and not let them control me. I take comfort in knowing that God has great plans for my life and He will be there through every struggle life may bring. I find a sense of peace in that I never have to handle my fears alone. God walks with me and comforts my heart. So, I give God my fears and let Him hold them.

Resolutions
Every year, we make resolutions. Some we keep for a bit before slipping back into real life. Sometimes, they're changes we really need to make anyway and it being a new year just makes it easier to make a fresh start.
Here's what I've resolved:
-I've decided to let go of some friendships. I've realized that I have several one-way friendships I'm not taking those into the new year. I'm making room in my life for better friendships.
-Lose 1 pound per week. I'm upping my cardio and intensity. As I get older, I find this goal harder, but it still leads to a healthier me, so it's worth pursuing.
-Try new things
-Travel whenever possible
-Soak in and embrace each moment. Time is fleeting.
-Make healthy eating choices
-Do some form of excercise every day
-Read for fun whenever possible
-I realize that I've finally found my voice and I intend to use it. I plan to speak up for myself. In the past, I generally didn't tell people when they'd hurt me, instead I carried it. I've decided to tell people when they hurt me. They can't fix something they don't know about. I'm hoping it helps strengthen my relationships.
-Strive to be closer to God and strengthen my relationship with him
Has anyone made any resolutions? Do we actually ever achieve our resolutions? Here's to good intentions! :)

I am telling you, every time I have a need, God immediately fills it. Lately, He's been heaping blessings on me and I am overwhelmed with gratefulness. When things used to stress me, I'd become overwhelmed with worry and fear. Lately, I've been making a conscious decision not to worry about it. Phillipians 4:19, "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Luke 12:24, "Look at the ravens. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!" Matthew 6:30, "And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?" It's going to be a great Christmas and a fantastic new year!
Praise the Lord, I'm finally done with my paper for class. Thankful God got me through it! With the help of God, I was able to raise my grade one whole letter. After the final and paper, I may have raised it two letter grades! God is good! Last thing left is my open book final tonight, then freedom!!! :)
I can't wait to finally read for fun! Just over a month until the next semester!
Be blessed! Merry Christmas!!!

Late Night Reflections
Somehow, I've gained a small, but faithful readership in Malaysia. Hello to my Malaysian readers! I don't know how you found me, but thanks for joining me on this journey through life. Can we trade weather?! It's supposed to snow here tomorrow and is currently 7 degrees.
As 30 quickly approaches, I've been thinking about how I'm not even near where I'd hoped to be. On the other hand, I've had some of the most amazing experiences. Things that I'll never forget and memories I'll reflect on with a smile for the rest of my life. So, as the months go by, I'll be adding to this list.
-I've been to Cancun and Monterey, CA for spring break trips
-I saw the actor, Bill Murray when I went out to dinner with friends once
-I've been to Italy
-I've been in a commercial
-I got to live on the lake one summer (priceless)
-I've been on a mission trip to Mexico (so rewarding)
-I've started grad school, which is more than I'd ever hoped to do. I've realized God has bigger plans for me than I have for myself.
-I've found what I'm passionate about and I'm working in my dream job
-I've found balance in work and life
-I've been on some epic trips with enough stories to fill a small book (lake trips are the best)
-I've learned which friendships are worth maintaining
-I've learned to laugh whenever I have the chance, to enjoy the sun on my skin, and the wind in my hair
-I've learned to navigate big cities and airports and through those experiences have learned that I've stronger than I think I am
-I've learned that I am resilient; I may fall a million times, but I still get up and have hope that maybe next time will be different
-My scars all have pretty great stories (scar on my elbow is from the ice cream vending machine from my senior trip to Daytona Beach. I claim the thick scar on my stomach is from a knife fight, but it's from my appendectomy)
-I've boxed, taken a knitting class, and taken ballroom dancing twice (love it and always looking for a partner)
-I've dipped my feet in several oceans
-I've learned to find my voice and stick up for myself
I've learned that God is so amazing, powerful, loving, forgiving, full of grace. I've come to realize this all so much more in the last couple of years. The journey has been rough, but what He's taught me has been priceless.
-I've learned to pray more and trust more; it's been a process
-I've learned to embrace myself, quirks and all
-I've realized how immensely blessed I am with the church family, parents, and family God has placed in my life; He gives me more than I deserve
-I've finally come to know and understand that I'm a processor and need time to figure out how I feel about things
-I've finally come to realize that just because I don't test well, it doesn't mean I'm dumb
-I'm finally admitting that I know I can't grow any taller, but it's still a decent excuse for why I don't drink coffee
-I'm still learning to live in the moment and take as much joy as I can from them
My 30th is still a ways off, what should I do for it? Unfortunately, it'll be in the middle of the semester, so no fun vacation destination options :(. I'm debating between doing something really small or doing nothing. What'd you do for your last big birthday?

Weight off my shoulders
Whew, the thing I'd been dreading most this semester is now over. My hour-long group ethics presentation is over! I tried to stay calm, but was initially terrified. I only made it through prayer. Thanks everyone for praying for me!!! My new favorite song, Never Once by One Sonic Society helped me through it too; God is good! Oh, and I got an A on the presentation! AND I found a grading error on my last test and the whole class got two points back! This girl needs all the points back she can get! ;) Okay, enough exclamation points for one post. ;)

Christmas
This will be my first Christmas in my apartment. I'd like to get a small Christmas tree and a Christmas wreath.
More than anything, I'd can't wait to pass this class so I can get into the Christmas spirit.
So far, I have only purchased one Christmas present and that was over summer. So, I've got a long way to go. This year, I'm on a tighter budget. Boo! I guess, it will make me more creative. :)
I've always said I love a simple Christmas. I hate holidays being overdone. I love the simplicity of doing enough to make it special, but still be able to enjoy it. Sometimes all the plans and hype take the focus away from what Christmas is all about. Christmas is about God who sent His Son, Jesus to save us from our sin. Without this great gift, we could never hope to go to heaven, but God made a way for us through Jesus. Amen!

I'm Completely In Love With This Song
You know those songs that remind you what you need to hear and that encourage your heart? For me, that is One Sonic Society's Never Once. It's so powerful and helps me find strength in God and His promises.
Lyrics: One Sonic Society
from the album Never Once (Single)
Standing on this mountain top
Looking just how far we've come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us
Kneeling on this battleground
Seeing just how much You've done
Knowing every victory
Was Your power in us
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone (Favorite 2 lines)
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
Standing on this mountain top
Looking just how far we've come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
Every step we are breathing in Your grace
Evermore we'll be breathing out Your praise
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
It's true, You are faithful, God You are faithful
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Carried by Your constant grace
Held within Your perfect peace
Never once, no, we never walk alone
We know, You are faithful, God, You are faithful

New Music I'm Listening to
So, I saw a video on Facebook and got addicted to the song. I'm a hopeless romantic, what can I say. Check out the video of "Oh Sweet Lorraine" and the story behind it. I hope to find love like this one day.
Also, the terrific band Cloverton just dropped their first album. I've followed the band from the start; they are from Manhattan and I know two of the band members from high schooland college. Their new album, "Patterns" is an oasis for someone needing rest for their soul. I heard them play all the songs at their CD release party last weekend. God definitely used their album to encourage my heart and remind me of His love for me. Check out "Patterns!" I normally don't buy albums, because I normally don't like all the songs on it. That was definitely not the case with "Patterns." . Okay, just two more videos from them. Buy the album, you won't regret it.
Lastly, I went to the Paxico Blues Festival last weekend and discovered the crazy/talented Samantha Fish Band. I'm in love with their song, "Last September." Here's a link to the song: http://www.virginmedia.com/music/browse/samantha-fish/songs/3844224#.
